USA: further rise in leading indicators – 01/21/2022 at 16:09

(CercleFinance.com) – The index of leading indicators of the United States continued to rise in December, attesting to the solidity of the American economy despite, in particular, the appearance of the Omicron variant.

The economic index compiled by the Conference Board employers’ organization rose by 0.8% to 120.8 points last month, in line with what economists expected.

Its progression had reached 0.7% in November, just like in October.

The Conference Board says it expects this favorable momentum to continue through the spring, but warns that the spread of Omicron combined with labor shortages, inflationary pressures and the tightening of monetary policy in the Fed should moderate growth in activity.

At an annualized rate, the employers’ association still forecasts US GDP growth of 2.2% in the first quarter and 3.5% for the whole of 2022.
