A former ‘green beret’, the US special forces unit, was arrested and indicted in Virginia for spying on behalf of Russia. The Justice Department said.
This is Peter Rafael Dzibinski Debbins, 45, born in the United States to a Russian mother and approached from Moscow in 1996, even before he joined the army.
When he later expressed his intention to leave him, according to US justice, he was instead encouraged to join the special forces. The last contact with Moscow mentioned in the indictment dates back to 2011.
The military is accused of having “provided information on American defense to a foreign government” and now faces life in prison.
