The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) announced that officials from the Consulate General of Guatemala in Atlanta, Georgia, USA managed, through complaints, to get Facebook to close down pages that were used to defraud compatriots.

According to Minex, through these fan pages they offered to schedule appointments for Guatemalans and citizens of other countries to speed up different procedures at the Consulates of Guatemala and Mexico, with a charge of US $200, while these services are free and personal.

Upon learning of the anomalies, the Consular Mission began to denounce these pages, which scheduled up to 20 appointments a day and deceived people by posing as personnel from the Consulate in Atlanta.

Likewise, the Minex asked the compatriots to denounce people, organizations or profiles on social networks that offer paid services for programming them.

In addition, the Consulate General of Guatemala in Atlanta made available the telephone line 470-657-2510 to schedule appointments, as well as its official Facebook site for all kinds of queries.

He also recalled that all appointments in the US and Canada can be scheduled from the website http://www.citaconsularguatemala.com/.

The Foreign Ministry has a section on its website with the methods of communication with each of the offices in the different countries, for the safety of Guatemalans.
