USA donates hundreds of thousands of COVID vaccines to Honduras

The United States government has donated 346,320 thousand Pfizer vaccines against COVID-19 to Honduras, in addition to 58,200 thousand vials of diluentthe US Embassy in Tegucigalpa said in a statement. The vaccines and vials will be arriving in the country in several shipments during the July 13, 14 and 15.

The donation event was attended by the Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Janina Jaruzelski, the Minister of Health José Manuel Matheu, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cindy Rodríguez and Dr. Perelez from the Pan American Health Organization in Honduras.

This donation, like the previous ones, was possible through the Global Access Fund for Covid-19 Vaccines (COVAX) mechanism as “part of the Biden Administration’s global effort to save lives and end the COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement said.

This vaccine donation is the most recent example of several donations made and delivered since March 2020 by the USA. One of these important donations was the delivery on June 30 of 153,600 doses of pediatric vaccines to Honduras, which became the first country in Latin America to receive a donation of pediatric vaccines from the United States.

USA adds more than 5 million donated vaccines

With this shipment, The United States adds more than 5.2 million doses of vaccine donated since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Currently, we are facing economic uncertainty around the world. Some things are not within our control, but protecting ourselves and reducing the negative effects and the number of COVID cases through vaccination is something that is within our control”, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Janina Jaruzelski said.

“The United States government recognizes that ending this pandemic must be done globally and will continue to work to get the largest number of doses of safe and effective vaccines to the largest number of people around the world as quickly as possible.”also points out the embassy statement.
