Christian Pulisic headed a ball on his first touch of the game in the 74th minute, Weston McKennie increased to 85 and the United States defeated Mexico 2-0 to displace it as the leader of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying rounds.
The 2-0 is a gratifying scoreboard loaded with symbolism for the Americans against their classic regional adversary … and the fans of the Mexican National Team did not forgive their team on Twitter for falling to the staunch rival.
It also marked the United States’ third victory against El Tri in official matches this year, adding to the 3-2 triumph in the Nations League final in June – with another goal from Pulisic – and then 1-0 in the definition of the Gold Cup in August.
Freshly recovered from a left ankle injury suffered in the victory over Honduras in early September, Pulisic entered for Brenden Aaronson at 69 to set up an unappealable victory.
