Two people were traveling on the plane, including Unlimited Aerobatic Team member pilot Craig Gifford, 52 years old. The team took part in the last two FAI World Aerobatic Championships, managing to win a bronze medal in South Africa three years ago.
It was precisely in a potentially tragic circumstance that all the qualities of an experienced driver emerged. Indeed, as Experimental Aircraft Association spokesman Dick Knapinski explained in an interview with Star Tribune, the pilots are prepared to face critical situations and, therefore, the type of training and the skill of Gifford certainly served to limit the damage.
