USA / Covid: Intel Informs Its Unvaccinated Employees Will Be On Leave Without Pay As Of April 2022

The Intel company informed its employees on Tuesday that people unvaccinated against the coronavirus who do not get exemptions for religious or medical reasons will be on unpaid leave from April, reports theAssociated Press.

The world’s second-largest semiconductor maker told employees last month they had a Jan. 4 deadline to get vaccinated against Covid-19 or apply for an exemption, citing a government mandate for federal contractors.

The constitutionality of general government mandates is pending. A Georgia federal court blocked the contractor’s tenure earlier this month, but the government then appealed.

“We are closely monitoring the legal environment and believe it will take time for the Georgia case, and other similar cases, to be fully resolved,” Intel said in a statement.

In a memo to employees on Dec. 7, HR Director Christy Pambianchi told employees that the Jan. 4 vaccination deadline remains in effect.

In the United States, the Omicron variant represents 73.2% of new Covid-19 contaminations, with peaks of 95% in certain Northwestern states, according to the authorities.

In this context, Joe Biden must announce on Tuesday new measures in the country most bereaved in the world by the pandemic, with more than 807,000 dead.
