(CercleFinance.com) – The growth of private sector activity in the United States slows down markedly in August, according to IHS Markit, whose composite PMI index fell from 59.9 in July to 55.4 in a flash estimate ‘for the current month.
For the record, it is the threshold of 50 that separates expansion and contraction of activity for the PMI indices. IHS Markit explains this strong slowdown in expansion by capacity constraints and the spread of the delta variant.
