An agreement with biotech company Gilead Sciences provides for the purchase of drug doses for more than 500,000 treatments, the United States Department of Health said. This equates to 100 percent of the planned production volume for July and 90 percent for August and September.
A Gilead spokesman declined to comment on whether the agreement would jeopardize the supply of the active ingredient in Europe.
