A North Texas man bought a signed Taylor Swift guitar at auction and then destroyed it, apparently in political protest over the singer’s support of US vice president and presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
According to WFAA News, the man bought the guitar for $4,000 during an auction held by the nonprofit Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in Waxahachie, Texas last Saturday.
Video of the incident, which has gone viral, shows the man approaching the guitar and smashing it with a hammer.
A spokesman for Ellis County Wild Game told WFAA the man’s action was not “malicious.” “He just made a light-hearted statement that showed people’s disapproval of the entertainment industry trying to influence politics.”
“It was just a funny thing that happened at our annual event. People thought it was hilarious,” added the agency’s spokesperson. “Importantly, 100% of the money raised goes directly to local youth training programs and rural education programs.
At the end of the day, the kids win and will benefit from it,” he noted.
