WASHINGTON, Feb 24 (Reuters) – U.S. new home sales rose in January at the same pace as the previous month despite higher interest rates but the median price of property fell, data released on Friday showed by the Department of Commerce.
These sales increased last month by 7.2% to 670,000 units in annualized data adjusted for seasonal variations after 625,000 units the previous month (revised figure of 616,000).
Economists polled by Reuters forecast an average of 620,000 units.
In detail, they especially progressed in the South (+17.1%) and fell in the North-East (-19.4%).
The one-year median price came in at $427,500, down 0.7% from January 2022.
