US warship crosses Taiwan Strait after warning of Chinese invasion

TAIPEI – Navy United States of America (US) said a warship of the country was sailing across Taiwan Strait . This came a day after top US commanders warned about the threat of invasion China ke Taiwan in the next six years.

“The Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer USS John Finn made a routine transit yesterday through the waterway separating mainland China and Taiwan,” the US Seventh Fleet said in a statement. France24, Thursday (11/3/2021).

The US Seventh Fleet said the third voyage since President Joe Biden took office demonstrated the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.

US warships regularly conduct navigation drills in the strait. These actions have often angered Beijing, which claims Taiwan and its surrounding waters as its own territory.

The US and many other countries view the route as international waters open to all.

The US warship’s latest transit comes on the same day Beijing accuses Admiral Philip Davidson, the top US military officer in Asia-Pacific, of seeking to increase China’s military threat.
