/ world today news/ In its policy of division, “containment” and continuation of the Cold War, the USA attacks China again. This time they want to change China’s status from “developing country” to “developed”. The reason? Because in this way they hope to slow down China’s development.
It is true that the People’s Republic of China has achieved dizzying successes over the past few decades. Today, the Chinese economy is second in the world, and China is the leader in production and trade. But despite this, China can hardly be classified as a “developed” country. Yes, GDP per capita has grown from $200 a few decades ago to over $12,000 today. But this is still far from the GDP per capita of developed countries. Compare China’s GDP per capita with that of, for example, Ireland, where it is $102,000. Or the USA itself, where according to the IMF it is 75,180 dollars.
It is also true that China has lifted more than 800 million people out of absolute poverty, a historic achievement unmatched in human history. But despite this, a large proportion of the Chinese population is still far from the standard of living of Western countries. Moreover, China’s urbanization is just over 60%, while the share of the urbanized population in developed countries is typically over 75-80%.
Also, if the US, citing the logic that China has a large economy, wants to remove the status of the PRC as a “developing” country, why not ask the same for countries like India, Mexico or Brazil, for example, which also have large gross national product? Quite simply – because these countries have not yet fallen under the crosshairs of the American geopolitical line of “containment”. The US is not yet afraid that the listed may threaten its global hegemony and control over world processes.
The whole thing is that the Americans want to deprive China of some quite legitimate rights and interests that the country has under the rules of the World Trade Organization. Because this is the only way Washington can really slow down China’s growth and development. And the need for this stems from the American fear that they will be supplanted as the world hegemon. This fear, in turn, is due to the fact that the US does not understand China, the Chinese mentality, and does not know what national interests the country has. The Chinese have shown throughout the millennia of their history that they have no interest in global hegemony. And today, Chinese politics strives to achieve mutually beneficial trade and contracts, because it prefers to create partners instead of competitors and enemies.
China has a huge population of 1.4 billion people, and if it pursues reasonable and development-promoting policies, it is normal for it to have a huge GDP. But this does not mean, for example, that Chinese citizens have the same purchasing power as Americans and Western Europeans. Any person with any conscience is aware that the standard of living of the Chinese cannot be compared with that of the Swiss, Germans, French, Scandinavians or even Americans. It is true that the standard of living of Americans, for example, is decreasing and getting worse, while the opposite is true in China, it is increasing and getting better. But the moment when the two will meet and equalize is still far away.
Maybe China will become a truly “developed” country in time. The country has every prospect for this and the Chinese authorities are working hard for the goal. But for now, the PRC is far from that status, and the only reason for that to change formally is because the US wants to be able to rely on unfair competition and disproportionate privileges when it comes to China or any other country that Washington sees as a threat. for his hegemony over the world.
