The attack claimed the lives of a British security guard and a Romanian crew member.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said there is information available regarding the attack. He added that there was no justification for such actions and vowed to provide an “appropriate response”.
“After reviewing the available information, we believe that Iran carried out this attack, which killed two innocent people, using a one-way explosive UAV, a lethal capability that is increasingly being used throughout the region,” Blinken said.
The statement followed Britain and Israel both accusing Tehran of launching an attack on the oil tanker Mercer Street.
