The prospect, for the US Volkrange, of being provided with a synthetic pitch in place of its old stabilized pitch is no longer a fantasy. Mayor Pierre Cuny says he is open to this investment on the condition that the football club continues its progress.

He could have judged the attack to be too offensive, bordering on cavalier. Finally, Pierre Cuny does not seem to hold it against the Volkrange club. Last year, the management team launched an online petition. This in-depth appeal, to use the codes of football terms, pursued a very specific goal: to alert the municipality of the need to build a synthetic pitch, instead of a stabilized pitch deemed too dilapidated.

Alain Rieth does not regret having taken this petitionary route. Even today, the man who is attacking his third season in the president’s chair is playing overtime: “It is essential to ensure the continuity of the club. More than words, a quantified reality: under his leadership, the US Volkrange went from 50 licensees in 2021 to 110 at the start of this season. A leap forward which results in six teams entered in official competition, including three youth teams: “A good basis for the future,” judges the manager. It is no coincidence that a team of veterans was formed with the parents of our young players…”

In the stands, the mayor carefully observes this progression: “The club has become structured, that is undeniable. » Eager to restore to the city a sporting image of excellence – a process well underway with the resurrection of the Thionville Lusitanos club –, the elected official does not lose sight of the popular dimension of the discipline: “To have football of elite, we need grassroots football.” An equation which will lead him to include this project to construct a synthetic pitch in the City’s next multi-year investment plan (PPI). As a reminder, the average cost of this type of equipment is €650,000.
“If the US Volkrange continues on this path, this land could be delivered in the summer of 2026.” And if this prognosis is verified, a name already seems ready to christen this training area: that of the late Maxime Fouquet, who died of Charcot’s disease on July 15: “It was the club of his heart…”
