Not released yet US visas to Russian journalists for their flight with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to the UN Security Council, the delegation leaves. This was written on Sunday by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the Telegram channel.
“On the question of the real attitude of the USA towards journalists. There are 40 minutes left until their flight to New York. Everyone is at the airport. Visas have not been issued. The answer of the American embassy: “We are working on the issue.” The manipulation of the topic of the freedom of the speech and rights of journalists, – said the diplomat.
Russia thinks that The US violated international law by not issuing visas to the journalists. This was stated in a statement of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, issued on Sunday.
We consider this step yet another disregard for international law on the part of the US. The refusal to allow Russian journalists to attend events at the UN once again shows the true attitude of the US authorities to freedom of speech and access to information, the statement said. We hope that the leadership of the UN and the relevant international structures will show the necessary attention to this outrageous situation and take the necessary steps against the offender,” Russian diplomats said.
US Embassy in Moscow has not yet returned the passports of the Russian journalists, representatives of the media reported to TASS on Sunday. According to them, the journalists were invited to the embassy in Moscow to obtain visas on April 22, the last day before the minister’s departure. The interview was previously scheduled for March 31, but was canceled.
Earlier, Lavrov stated that The US has abused the position of host country of the UN headquarters in issuing visas to the Russian delegation to the Security Council, as visas were never issued to individual officials, nor to all journalists in the delegation. As the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted, the American side has not explained in any way the non-issuance of visas to representatives of the Russian media.
Moscow is demanding that the US immediately issue visas to its delegation to the UN Security Council
There is no plan for Sergey Lavrov’s flight either
We remind you that Russia presided over the UN Security Council in April. The head of the Russian diplomatic service, as part of the presidency, will take part in the meetings of the Security Council on April 24 and 25.
On April 13, Moscow demanded that the US issue visas immediately for her delegation to the UN Security Council, including the journalists covering the event.
A request for visas for Russian diplomats and journalists at the US Embassy in Moscow was already sent at the end of March.
The situation surrounding Minister Lavrov’s special flight, for which there was also no agreed plan, remained unclear.
