United States has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. Washington said the resolution would create a group Hamas becoming braver.
A Palestinian militia group criticized Washington as “a partner in aggression against our people.”
“It was a criminal act, killing children and women, and destroying the lives of civilians in Gaza,” Hamas said, according to the news agency. AFPThursday (21/11/2024).

The US-sponsored UNSC resolution called for an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire” in the war between Israel and Palestinian factions, along with the “immediate and unconditional release of all an enemy “
However, Israel’s UN Ambassador, Danny Danon, said the resolution was “not a path to peace, but a road map to more terror, more suffering and more bloodshed.
“Many of you tried to stop this injustice. We thank the United States for using its hump,” he said.
Robert Wood, the US Deputy Ambassador to the UN, said the US position remains the same, which is that “there has to be a link between the ceasefire and the release of hostages.”
The war in Gaza took place after a major attack Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, a cross-border attack that resulted in the death of 1,206 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures.
