The State Department is urging US citizens to leave these regions immediately due to the buildup of Russian troops.
The United States recommends that its citizens urgently leave Belarus and the unrecognized Transnistria because of the situation around Ukraine. This is stated in statements released on Monday by the State Department.
One read: “Do not travel to Belarus due to arbitrary enforcement of local laws, risk of detention, unusual and worrying Russian buildup of forces along Belarus’ border with Ukraine, and COVID-19 and related restrictions. U.S. citizens in Belarus should leave immediately using public or private transportation.”
The document also clarifies that “On January 31, 2022, the State Department ordered the departure of family members of US civil servants from the embassy in Minsk.”
As noted in the US Foreign Ministry, “US citizens who are in Belarus or are considering the possibility of going there should take into account that the situation is unpredictable, there is increased tension in the region.”
The second statement emphasizes: “Do not travel to Moldova due to COVID-19, unusual and worrying Russian military activity around Ukraine, unresolved conflict between the breakaway region of Transnistria and central authorities.” In addition, it is noted that “US citizens in Transnistria should leave immediately.”
Earlier media reported that US withdraws its employees from Donbass in the OSCE. It was also reported that the US Embassy temporarily moved to Lviv.
