US President Joe Biden is convinced that Nord Stream 2 is a bad deal for Germany, Ukraine and all of Europe. The State Department is monitoring everyone involved in the project and will impose sanctions against them.
This was stated by the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, it says on the official website departments. “The department is monitoring efforts to complete the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and evaluating information on legal entities that appear to be involved,” the website says.
The pipeline, the secretary of state notes, is a Russian geopolitical project aimed at dividing Europe and weakening European energy security.
“The sanctions legislation passed by Congress in 2019 and expanded in 2020 enjoys significant support from a bipartisan majority in Congress. The Biden administration is complying with this legislation. The department reiterates its warning that anyone involved in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline “, runs the risk of falling under US sanctions and should immediately stop work on the pipeline,” the State Department said.
The Nord Stream 2 project is estimated at 9.5 billion euros. It is being implemented by Gazprom in an alliance with European companies Engie, Uniper, OMV, Shell, Wintershall. They pledged to finance Nord Stream 2 in total by 50%, that is, by 950 million euros each. Gazprom will provide the second half of the funds – 4.75 billion euros.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the gas pipeline must be put into operation at the beginning of 2021. However, later the dates were postponed to the end of the year.
As previously reported OBOZREVATEL, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau publicly addressed the US President Joe Biden with the request stop the construction of Nord Stream 2 using any tools.
