US unveils new nuclear bomber that can fly unmanned | Abroad

The United States Air Force unveiled the B-21 Raider on Friday. This new advanced nuclear bomber can perform unmanned missions. It is the first of its category.

The B-21 is equipped with so-called stealth technology. This allows the aircraft to penetrate deep into hostile territory undetected. The device, which will cost $700 million each, has been worked on for years in the deepest secrecy.

Senior American officials, including Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, were present at an unveiling ceremony at the manufacturer Northrop Grumman in California. “The B-21 is a testament to America’s enduring leadership in ingenuity and innovation,” he said.

Northrop Grumman calls the B-21 “the future of deterrence.” Many details remain secret, but the aircraft would be a significant improvement over other US Air Force bombers. The first official flight of the aircraft will take place next year.

The presentation of the new bomber comes at a time of heightened tension with Russia. US military planners are also factoring in a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

A recent Pentagon report shows that China has doubled its nuclear warheads. And this is much faster than expected from the US.
