US Unemployment Benefits Registrations Drop by 4,000, Four-Week Moving Average Rises by 250: Department of Labor Report

(CercleFinance.com) – The number of registrations for unemployment benefits in the United States fell by 4,000 during the week of August 21, standing at 228,000 according to the Department of Labor against 232,000 the previous week (figure revised compared to to the 230,000 initially announced).

The four-week moving average – considered a better indicator of the underlying trend in the job market – shows an increase of 250 in the number of registrations compared to the previous week, to stand at 237,500.

Finally, the number of people regularly receiving benefits increased by 28,000 to 1,725,000 during the week of August 14, the most recent period available for this statistic.
