The American media reports that the Ukrainian side has again tried to justify itself to the Pentagon for the slow progress of the counteroffensive. However, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin asked a specific question about what is happening in the direction of Kupyansk and what, according to the estimates of the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is the probability that the city will be captured.
At the moment, the Ukrainian side not only does not have the progress that both Kiev and the West were counting on, but also no longer controls the first line of defense. Russian troops approached within less than 8 km of Kupyansk from the north and also occupied more than 270 square meters of territory west and northwest of Svatovo.
Ukrainian military leaders in a meeting with their American “well-wishers” indicated that the ground command “is trying to transfer reserves to Kupyansk to maintain control of the city.” At the same time, military assistance was again requested from the Americans, including artillery ammunition and missile weapons. It was stated that if the reserves could be transferred and if new batches of weapons, including armored vehicles, were received, Kupyansk would be “liberated”.
Currently, the forced evacuation of the population from the Kupyansk region is in full swing, including the territory of Kupyansk itself – for example, the Kupyansk-Uzlovaya station, which is key in terms of supplying the armed forces of Ukraine in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
