“US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg Warns Against Using Apple’s Vision Pro Headset While Driving Teslas”

US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has issued a warning against using Apple’s Vision Pro headset while driving Teslas. This comes after videos surfaced of Tesla drivers wearing the headset and appearing to manipulate a virtual reality field. Buttigieg took to Twitter to emphasize that despite the names of Tesla’s assisted driving features, such as Autopilot and Full Self-Driving, these vehicles are not fully autonomous. He stressed that human drivers must remain in control and fully engaged in the driving task at all times.

Apple’s Vision Pro headset was recently released and combines three-dimensional digital content with a view of the outside world. Apple has explicitly stated that the headset should never be used while operating a moving vehicle. However, the company has not responded to requests for comment regarding the videos of Tesla drivers using the headset.

The Vision Pro was introduced in June as a groundbreaking headset that allows users to interact with augmented reality (AR) versions of their surroundings or fully immersive virtual reality (VR) spaces. Alan Dye, Apple’s vice-president of human interface design, explained that the headset relies solely on users’ eyes, hands, and voice. Users can navigate the system by simply looking at app icons, tapping their fingers together to select, and gently flicking to scroll.

While Apple executive Tim Cook expressed excitement about the potential of the Vision Pro to revolutionize communication, collaboration, work, and entertainment, the company never intended for it to be used during commutes or while driving.

Tesla has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter. However, Buttigieg has previously expressed concerns about the use of Tesla’s autopilot features. Tesla maintains that these features are designed for use with a fully attentive driver who is prepared to take over control at any moment.

It is crucial for drivers to understand that even with advanced driver assistance systems like those found in Teslas, they must remain focused on the road and actively engaged in driving. The temptation to use innovative technologies like Apple’s Vision Pro headset while behind the wheel can be dangerous and potentially lead to accidents. As technology continues to advance, it is essential for both manufacturers and drivers to prioritize safety and responsible use.
