Earlier this year, it was announced that Apple could be denied sales of the company’s Apple Watch in the US due to a patent dispute with the health equipment manufacturer Masimo.
Tuesday reports Reuters that Joe Biden’s administration has chosen not to veto the US authorities’ decision to introduce an import ban. Thus, the decision from the US International Trade Commission (ITC) will take effect from and including 26 December.
The core of the dispute is the technology behind the watch’s ability to measure oxygen saturation in the wearer’s blood.
The import ban applies to the Apple Watch models that use this technology.
Neither Apple nor Masimo has commented on the decision. Apple can appeal the decision, writes Reuters.
The technology giant has already frozen sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 in the US. The import refusal will not affect sales of the less expensive model Apple Watch SE
Billion turnover
Masimo has previously accused Apple of stealing both employees and the company’s pulse oximetry technology, then incorporating the technology into the Apple Watch.
Apple Watch and AirPods have become very popular products from Apple, because the company’s business area for so-called “wearables”, which also includes these products, had a turnover of 8.28 billion dollars in the third quarter of this year.
