WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States will send some 3,000 additional troops to Poland in coming days to try to reassure its NATO allies about Russia’s military moves near Ukraine, Reuters said on Friday. four US representatives.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, they specified that the soldiers will come from a battalion in the United States and not from the American military contingent already present in Europe.
These 3,000 soldiers will be added to the 8,500 already placed on alert for a possible deployment in Eastern Europe, while the administration of President Joe Biden had already announced this month the deployment of close of 3,000 soldiers in Poland and Romania.
A crisis meeting was held overnight from Thursday to Friday at the White House, as Russia began joint military exercises in Belarus and maneuvers in the Black Sea this week.
