(ANSA) – CARACAS, 06 SEPTEMBER – The head of the US mission for Venezuela, Francisco Palmieri, said that Joe Biden’s administration will maintain its policy of sanctions against the government of Nicolás Maduro, to push the two parties in conflict to dialogue. “The root of the problem in Venezuela is the lack of democracy and respect for the constitution and civil rights,” Palmieri said in a live interview on YouTube with two well-known Venezuelan journalists. “Our sanctions are not the root of the problem. The root of the problem is the inability of Nicolás Maduro and his group to accept what happened on July 28,” he added, insisting that blaming the sanctions evades the responsibility of Maduro’s government. Palmieri confirmed that Washington is also preparing new individual sanctions that will reach numerous members of the government establishment because they are “responsible for human rights violations, which are a serious crime against international law.” (ANSA).
