US to Houthis: Stop Attacking, Start Negotiating

WASHINGTON – United States of America (US) said an armed group Houthi must demonstrate a willingness to be involved in the political process in order to achieve peace in Yaman . The statement came after weeks missile and drone attacks carried out by rebel allies of Iran to Saudi Arabia .

“The leaders of the Houthi movement need to stop attacking and start negotiating,” said State Department spokesman Ned Price. Al Jazeera, Tuesday (9/3/2021).

The Yemeni rebel group on Sunday attacked Saudi Aramco oil facilities. They launched eight ballistic missiles and 14 drones.

The State Department said the US believed the latest attack was carried out by the Houthis.

“The United States is unacceptable and dangerous and puts civilians at risk, including American citizens,” said the US State Department.

The US State Department’s comments came hours before the Saudi-led coalition intercepted the armed drone launched by the Iran-aligned movement towards Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia, Saudi state media reported.

Last month, the US imposed sanctions on two Houthi leaders, citing their alleged role in cross-border attacks in Saudi Arabia and shipping vessels in the Red Sea.
