US to extradite El Chapo’s son

The United States wants to extradite Ovidio Guzmán, the son of jailed drug lord Jacqueline El Chapo. The demand is to be extradited to face trial in cases of drug smuggling into the US. Guzmán was recently arrested by Mexican security forces after a bloody encounter.

Ovidio nicknamed ‘Mouse’ was arrested just before US President Joe Biden’s visit to Mexico. It is reported that 19 drug gang members and 10 soldiers were killed in an operation in Sinaloa state to arrest him, who was leading a drug gang in his father’s footsteps.

He was arrested while he was wanted in the US for smuggling drugs into the US. Ovidio, known as ‘The Mouse’, is believed to control a section of El Chapo’s Sinaloa Cartel, one of the world’s largest drug gangs. The U.S. State Department says he and his brother, Wakine, run 11 methamphetamine labs that produce between 1,300 and 2,200 kilograms of the drug a month.

El Chapo is currently serving a life sentence in a federal prison in Colorado, USA.
