US tennis player Madison Brengle excluded her compatriot Sofia Kenin from the prestigious Wimbledon tournament on Wednesday, who was awarded the fourth number. In the second round of the WTA ranked 82nd rocket Brengle defeated Kenina 6-2, 6-4.

The Wimbledon tournament is over for the first Baltic racket Anete Kontaveita from Estonia (WTA 25). The No. 24 tennis player conceded 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 on Wednesday to Czech Market Vondrushova (WTA 42nd). Swiss tennis player Belinda Benčič (WTA 11th), who was awarded the ninth number, will also not be seen in the second round. Belarusian tennis player Arina Sabalenko (WTA 4th) has also reached the third round. In the second round of the tournament, Sabaļenka defeated Katie Bulter from Great Britain (WTA 219) in the second round with 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
In turn, the Belgian representative Eliza Mertens (WTA 16) defeated Lina Zhū from China 6-2, 6-0 in the second round (WTA 99). Mertens, who received the 13th number, will meet in the third round with the American Madison Kiss (WTA 27), who defeated his compatriot Lawrence Davis 6-1, 6-4 (WTA 91). Kisa was placed in the tournament with number 23.
Victoria Azarenka from Belarus (WTA 14th) started the tournament with success on Wednesday. The 12th rocket of the tournament in its first match with 6-1, 6-3 defeated Katerina Kozlova from Ukraine (WTA 157), but the “French Open” champion Iga Švjonteka (WTA 9) in the second round with 6-1, 6-3 convincing defeated Vera Zvonarev from Russia (WTA 96). Finally, the Czech Karolīna Plīškova (WTA 13th) in the second round with Donn Vekic from Croatia (WTA 49) easily managed 6-2, 6-2.
There was heavy rain over the Wimbledon tennis courts on Tuesday, causing a host of games to be postponed to Wednesday. Some of the tournament participants managed to play their scheduled matches, but some of the tennis players waited much longer for their first game. At the same time, others are already looking in the direction of the second or third round.
It has already been reported that both Latvian tennis players Alona Ostapenko and Anastasia Sevastova celebrated their victories in the first round of the Wimbledon tournament on Wednesday. The third Grand Slam of the season – the Wimbledon Championship – will run until July 11. Last year, the championship was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2019, the victory in the women’s competition in Wimbledon was celebrated by the Romanian Simon Halep, who does not defend his title this year, but among the men was the Serb Novak Djokovic.
