Suara.com – Most people probably have a target to be able to achieve 10 thousand steps per day to have a body healthy. However, this is not always necessary.
New research from scientists in the United States concludes that adults only need at least 7,000 steps per day or exercising for more than 2.5 hours per week for longevity.
This statement was proven in two studies.
The first study, published in JAMA Network Open last month, followed more than 2,000 middle-aged male and female participants for more than 10 years. When participants first joined the study, they wore monitors that tracked their steps sequentially for one week.

The researchers found that those who walked more than 7,000 steps each day had a 50-70 percent reduced risk of dying compared to participants who walked fewer steps.
“7,000 steps daily, or about 30 to 45 minutes of exercise most days, appears to be the benchmark for achieving many health benefits including reduced mortality,” said Linda Pescatello, board of directors of distinguished professor of kinesiology at the University of Connecticut and a member of the American College of Sport. Medicine, quoted by Fox News.
The second study, published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings last August. Researchers analyzed data from the Copenhagen City Heart Study, which began in 1976 to look at the cardiovascular health of thousands of Danish patients.
The researchers tracked how many hours each week the thousands of Danes each exercised.
Although more than half have died since the study began 25 years ago, the researchers found that participants who reported 2.6-4.5 hours of exercise each week lowered their risk of dying young by 40 percent.

Researchers translated 2.6 hours each week as equivalent to walking 7,000 to 8,000 steps daily. While 4.5 hours each week amounts to about 10,000 steps.
“Step intensity is very important in determining health outcomes associated with physical activity. Any movement is good, however, the Physical Activity Guidelines are set from moderate to vigorous intensity,” Orangetheory Fitness research scientist Brittany Masteller told Fox News.
Even so, people who regularly reach 7,000-10,000 steps per day are more likely to get at least a few doses of moderate-intensity steps or higher.”
