Major indices in the US stock market closed higher on Thursday, as investors evaluated the latest batch of economic data and the rise in Treasury yields stalled ahead of the headline inflation report.
Investors are also watching developments in Washington to see if US lawmakers are able to avoid a government shutdown.

According to preliminary data, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose by 24.75 points, or 0.58 percent, to close at 4,299.26 points.
The Nasdaq Composite Index also rose by 107.33 points, or 0.82 percent, to 13,200.18 points.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average also rose by 116.13 points, or 0.32 percent, to 33,659.20 points.
