US stock index performance was mixed at close of trading on Friday, December 2, following the monthly jobs report, but the indices posted their first collective weekly gains since October.
Equity indices managed to erase earlier losses, with markets evaluating the data releases and their impact on the Federal Reserve’s decision at its next meeting later this month.
At the end of the session, the Dow Jones Index was up 0.1%, or about 35 points, to 34429.88 points, after falling about 350 points in earlier trading.
The Standard & Poor’s index fell 0.1% to 4,071.70 points, while the Nasdaq fell 0.2% to 11,461.50 points.
This, the Nasdaq index gained this week by 2.1% and the S&P 500 is up 1.1% on the week, while the Dow Jones recorded weekly gains of about 0.2%.
It should be noted that the US economy added about 263,000 jobs in November, exceeding expectations of adding 260,000.
