US State Department voices concern over political deadlock in Lebanon and Parliament’s failure to elect new president

The US State Department said that the complete political paralysis in Lebanon is a problem that its leaders must solve, noting that Washington is disturbed by members of the Lebanese Parliament leaving the hall to prevent a vote on electing a new president for the country.

On Wednesday, the Lebanese parliament again failed to elect a president, and neither the Hezbollah-backed candidate, Suleiman Franjieh, nor former Finance Minister Jihad Azour received enough votes to win a heated parliamentary session.
