“US State Department: Russia violates grain deal, jeopardizes global food supply”

Russia violates the terms of the grain deal, without confirming the intention of the collective West to fulfill the obligations assigned to it under the agreement. This statement was made by the head of the press service of the US State Department Matthew Miller.

Russia now refuses to let ships into one of these three ports through which food is exported from Ukraine. This is a clear violation of its obligations under the Black Sea Grain Initiative, its continued obstruction of this initiative,” he said at a regular briefing for journalists.

The representative of the American foreign policy department said that the termination of the grain deal will lead to an increase in food prices in the world, reducing the availability of food for vulnerable segments of the population.

“And we again call on Russia to stop holding hostage the global food supply,” Miller stated.

Recall that on May 18, the Russian side agreed to extend the grain deal. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that that part of the agreement, which concerns obligations to Moscow, is not being fulfilled. Russia insists on restoring the admission of Russian ships to foreign ports, normalizing the situation with dry cargo insurance, reconnecting Rosselkhozbank to the SWIFT interbank payment system and launching the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline.
