US State Department presses Iran to open “We must actively cooperate in nuclear inspection”

Joe Biden’s US administration urged Iran to actively cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspection of nuclear facilities, saying that Iran is not complying with its obligations under the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA, Comprehensive Joint Action Plan).

According to Reuters, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a press conference on the 23rd (local time) that “the United States insists that Iran cooperate with the IAEA to resolve the potential undeclared nuclear material problem.”

“The US will work closely with the IAEA to discuss appropriate steps to support negotiations with Iran,” Price added.

Earlier, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that if the JCPOA Party does not ease sanctions against Iran, it will refuse to inspect the IAEA from this day. Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Sayed Ali Hamenei, also mentioned on the 22nd that it could raise the level of uranium enrichment to 60% if necessary. Previously, Iran signed a JCPOA with the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China in 2015 as a condition of lifting economic sanctions from the international community instead of giving up on nuclear development, but in 2018, former U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally signed After declaring the destruction of the nuclear agreement, Iran has gradually reduced the scope of the JCPOA provisions since May 2019.

President Biden adheres to the position that Iran must first strictly comply with the JCPOA to remove sanctions.
