US State Department honors prosecutor Yuris as “Anti-Corruption Champion”

Today, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has named Latvia’s Chief Prosecutor Yuri Yuris one of the 12 “Anti-Corruption Champions” who “make the world a better place by fighting corruption and fighting for transparency and accountability.”

The US State Department has highlighted Yuris ‘”successful prosecution of former Ventspils Mayor Aivars Lembergs” for money laundering and related offenses, as well as Yuris’ contribution to the training of Latvian prosecutors and police.

The U.S. State Department unveiled the “Anti-Corruption Champion” award this year because fighting corruption is a national security and foreign policy priority for the United States and its partners.
