“US State Department expresses concern over resumption of air traffic between Georgia and Russia”

The US State Department has expressed concern about the resumption of air traffic between Georgia and Russia.

This was stated during the briefing by Deputy Press Secretary of the US State Department Vedant Patel. “European Truth”.

“If there are direct flights between Russia and Georgia, this will cause more and more concern – not only for the United States and other Western countries, but also for companies that can operate in Georgian airports … The entire Western community has distanced itself from the Russian Federation, and we We believe that now is not the time to strengthen cooperation with Russia,” he said.

A State Department spokesman said the US has made its concerns clear in this regard.

“Therefore, we will continue to monitor the situation closely and will take additional measures if necessary,” Patel added.

Recall, on May 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin canceled the visa regime for citizens of Georgia and at the same time lifted the ban on flights of Russian airlines to Georgia, which had been in effect since 2019 after the events known as the Gavrilov Night.

Over the past two days, Georgia has allowed two airlines to operate direct flights to Russia. According to preliminary information, air traffic between Russia and Georgia will resume on May 19. The first flight on the Moscow-Tbilisi-Moscow route will be operated by Azimut Airlines. From May 20, flights on the Tbilisi-Moscow-Tbilisi route will be resumed by Georgian Georgian Airways.

Already on Tuesday, May 16, and on the day of the arrival of the first flight, the opposition calls protests against the resumption of air traffic with the Russian Federation.
