The US State Department criticized recent statements by Israeli ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, who advocated the resettlement of Palestinians outside Gaza.
This, as European Pravda writes, is stated in a statement from the State Department.
“This rhetoric is provocative and irresponsible. The Israeli government has repeatedly and consistently told us, including the Prime Minister, that such statements do not reflect the policy of the Israeli government. They must stop immediately,” the United States Foreign Office noted.
The State Department emphasized that it is clear, consistent and unequivocal that Gaza is Palestinian land and will remain Palestinian land, where Hamas no longer controls its future and where there are no terrorist groups capable of threatening Israel.
“This is the future we strive for in the interests of Israelis and Palestinians, the entire region and the world,” the statement said.
On Sunday, Finance Minister Smotrich called on Palestinian residents to leave Gaza. At the same time, National Security Minister Ben-Gvir said that the war in Gaza provides “an opportunity to focus on encouraging the migration of Gazans.”
Smotrich’s far-right party has the support of Israeli settlers and helped Benjamin Netanyahu secure the majority needed to become prime minister for a sixth time a year ago.
Earlier, the media reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden insisted on withdrawal Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.
CNN, citing an American official, previously reported that the gradual reduction in the number of Israeli troops in Gaza indicates gradual transition to a phase of war with less intensity.
Previously, more than 130 employees of the US Department of Homeland Security asked the presidential administration Joe Biden to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
In addition, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin statedthat Israel risks “strategic defeat” in Gaza unless it does more to protect civilians.
