US Sniper in Ukraine Reveals Urgent Need for Artillery and Ammunition: Tanks Not a Priority

Jakarta

A sniper or sniper from the United States who took part in the war in Ukraine, said that the Ukrainian army was in dire need of artillery and ammunition. According to him, apart from weapons, they no longer care about expensive objects such as tanks.

Jonathan Poquette, the sniper, said Ukraine’s dwindling ammunition supplies meant they had to be much more choosy about which targets to hit. In fact, sometimes they allowed Russian troops to advance, even though they would have been shot first.

He also believes that Ukraine does not really need war vehicles. “With Western countries, a lot of people say oh yeah, they donated that vehicle, this vehicle. Bro, I don’t care about that vehicle, on some level,” he said.

“Give me bullets. Give me mortars. Give me artillery. Give me things that allow individual soldiers to fight and kill Russian soldiers,” he continued.

Poquette was a sniper with the Chosen Company, an international force in Ukraine that was officially designated as a reconnaissance unit, but mostly for front-line attack and defense missions.

According to him, prolonged shortages of weapons and equipment mean that weapons that can keep the army on the defensive and stop Russia are needed more urgently than other weapons. Even though expensive vehicles like tanks are important, currently there are things that are more important.

“What’s important right now is ammunition, grenades, claymores or other types of mines, rockets, various different rocket systems. What can one tank do? Not as many as 50,000 artillery rounds, 5,000 mortar rounds,” he said.

The recent comparison of weapons between Ukraine and Russia is indeed unequal. Previously, Lt. Gen. Oleksandr Syrsky as Commander in Chief of the Ukrainian military stated that Russian artillery and mortars outnumbered Ukraine 6 to 1 in the fight on the front lines.

Syrsky also admitted that the situation on the front lines was becoming difficult because Russia continued to attack and the number of their personnel and ammunition exceeded Ukraine. “Until a few days ago, the enemy’s advantage in ammunition fired was around 6 to 1. But we learned to fight not with the amount of ammunition, but with skill in using the weapons available,” he said
