President Andrés Manuel López Obrador believes that the silence that U.S. officials have maintained for a week now regarding judicial reform “is seen as a policy of responsibility and prudence.”
During his press conference, when questioned about the evolution of bilateral relations with the United States after the pause in ties with the embassy of that country in Mexico was declared, López Obrador said that indeed “about a week has passed and there have been no statements on the subject and we celebrate that because that is the purpose, that no foreign country of any ideological or political sign intervenes in matters that only correspond to Mexicans.”
For López Obrador, allowing it would have been like accepting that the Constitution was violated, and we are not a free and sovereign country. Fortunately, they have acted very prudently after that statement, so he is confident that things will improve.
He considered that these statements are part of the elections. When there are elections in any country there are even outbursts. “There are irresponsible attitudes everywhere, so we must continue to act with respect.”
