© Reuters. US stocks rise as trading closes; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.10%
Investing.com – US stocks were higher after Friday’s close as gains in , , and sectors sent shares higher.
As of the close of the NYSE, it gained 0.10% to hit a new 1-month high, while the index gained 0.92% and the index was up 1.88%.
The session’s top performers were Walgreens Boots United (NASDAQ: ), which rose 7.20% or 2.77 points to 41.26 at the close. Meanwhile, Nike (NYSE: ) rose 6.63% or 6.60 points to close at 106.09 and Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: ) rose 6.37% or 3.18 points to 53.14 in the last exchanges.
The worst performers on the session were UnitedHealth Group Inc (NYSE: ), which fell 4.06% or 22.09 points to trade at 522.08 at the close. Merck & Co (NYSE: ) was down 3.86% or 3.93 points to close at 97.96 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: ) was down 2.99% or 5.22 points at 169.25 at the close .
The best performers in the S&P 500 were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ: ), which rose 13.52% to 18.81; Arrival Technologies (NASDAQ: ), which rose 11.45% to the close to 218.98; VF Corporation (NYSE 🙂 up 11.39% to close at 33.34.
The worst performers of the group were Northrop Grumman Corp (NYSE:), which fell 7.32% to 492.70 in recent trading; Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:), which fell 6.79% to 227.58; Cigna Corp (NYSE: ) fell 6.04% to trade at 303.82 at the close.
The best performers on the Nasdaq Composite were ShiftPixy Inc (NASDAQ: ), which was up 56.43% as of 7:10 PM; Exela Technologies Inc (NASDAQ: ), which rose 50.27% to close at 0.28; uCloudlink (NASDAQ: ) 🙂 Up 49.61% to close at 1.90.
The worst performers were PLx Pharma Inc (NASDAQ: ) which fell 37.50% to 0.38 in recent trading; Science 37 Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: ) lost 32.06% to 0.85; and Airsculpt Technologies Inc (NASDAQ: ) which fell 30.66%, with a closing price of 3.28.
2,047 shares went up on the New York Stock Exchange, surpassing the number of shares that closed lower, 1,049. At the same time, 101 shares did not rise or fall, basically unchanged, 2,456 shares rose on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, and 1,305 shares fell. 213 individual stocks remained largely unchanged.
Shares of PLx Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all-time lows, falling 37.50%, or 0.22 to 0.38. Shares of Science 37 Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: ) fell to all-time lows, falling 32.06%, or 0.40 to 0.85 at the close. Airsculpt technologies Shares of Inc (NASDAQ: ) fell to all-time lows, shedding 30.66% or 1.45 to 3.28 at the close.
The implied volatility measure for S&P 500 options fell 4.33% to 22.51, a low close to January.
Gold futures options for December delivery rose 1.01%, or 17.80 points, to $1,771.50. Elsewhere, the WTI crude oil futures contract for delivery in December was up 2.94% (2.54 points), trading at $89.01, while the January London Brent crude oil futures contract was up by 2.53% (2.37), trading at $96.04.
EUR/USD rose 1.47% to 1.04, while USD/JPY fell 1.64% to 138.64.
US dollar index futures fell 1.73% to 106.23.
