Presidential Administration United States of America (AS), Donald Trump, sending supplies of missiles and other weaponry to help Filipina fighting militant linked groups Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The US has also renewed its pledge to defend the Philippines if it comes under attack in a dispute over the South China Sea.
As reported Associated Press, Monday (23/11/2020), the US National Security Advisor, Robert O’Brien, represented Trump at a ceremony at the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila on Monday (22/11) local time. During the ceremony, O’Brien announced the delivery of missile and bomb supplies to the Philippine military.
In a telephone conversation with the President Rodrigo Duterte In April, Trump promised to deliver US $ 18 million worth of missile supplies to the Philippines.
This US aid to the Philippines projects fairness in US foreign relations when Trump tries to contest the results of the November 3 presidential election. Duterte has previously called for US citizens of Filipino descent to vote for Trump in the presidential election, but he has congratulated US President-elect, Joe Biden, through his spokesman.
As well as visiting Manila, O’Brien previously represented Trump in a virtual meeting between the US and ASEAN and East Asian countries which China and Russia also attended.
In his remarks during the missile delivery ceremony, O’Brien touched on the role of the Trump administration in the defeat of ISIS in the Middle East and the killing of its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, in Syria last year. O’Brien also renewed US commitment to assist the Philippines in defeating ISIS-linked militants in the south of the country.
“President Trump supports President Duterte as we fight ISIS here in Southeast Asia,” said O’Brien. “This delivery underscores our strong and enduring commitment to our important alliance,” he added.
