A group of US senators has developed law regarding assistance to Ukraine in the field of security and strategic support. IN Office of the President the response was that the country highly appreciates such an initiative.
A statement on the document submitted by members of the Republican and Democratic parties was posted on website American Foreign Office.
Senators John Barrasso, Gene Shaheen, Jim Risch, Bob Menendez, Rob Portman became the authors of the bill.
As Risch said, Russia illegally seized Crimea seven years ago and launched a campaign of secret military support for terrorists in eastern Ukraine.
“Despite Russia’s flagrant disregard for international laws and obligations, Ukraine remains a loyal partner of the United States and resists Russia’s malign influence in Europe. I am proud to reintroduce this law today to demonstrate the continued United States support for the people of Ukraine and the country’s transition to democracy,” – said the senator.
Note that the draft law of the Ukraine Security Partnership Act provides for:
-
proposals for diplomatic support to Ukraine;
-
the appointment of a US special envoy for Ukraine, including who would also act as a mediator in the Normandy format negotiations;
-
the annual allocation of military aid to the country in the amount of up to $ 300 million, including the supply of lethal weapons;
-
up to 4 million per year for the training of Ukrainian officers;
-
accelerating the transfer of surplus defensive items to Ukraine, etc.
On the page in Facebook The Office of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the legislative initiative.
“The possible provision of additional funding for the defense sector of Ukraine will help improve the training, armament and material and technical support of the military and will accelerate the transition of the Ukrainian army to NATO standards,” the press service said.
In addition, the OP stressed that “Ukraine would be glad to welcome the appointment of a US special envoy to participate in the negotiations in the Normandy format to achieve peace in the Donbas.”
As previously wrote OBOZREVATEL, Former US Department of State Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volcker said: the administration of President Joe Biden will follow uphow Ukraine is fighting corruption and economic development, as well as the state of reforms. America will continue to support the country while nudging it into action.
