Washington: US Senator says that Israel will have to face the consequences of the killing of civilians in Gaza and the blocking of humanitarian aid. Chris Van Hollen, a senior Democratic senator and member of the US Foreign Relations Committee, came out against Israel.
Van Hollen answered the question of CBS News on Sunday. He said Israel was making political decisions that would create unnecessary hardships by blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza.
He added that US President Joe Biden and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s demand to reduce attacks on civilians and provide more humanitarian aid was correct, but they did not see that in Israel’s actions.
Before his interview with CBS News, Van Hollen visited Egypt’s Rafah border with Gaza. Van Hollen added that when he spoke to the volunteers, they said they had never encountered such a bad environment before to hinder humanitarian aid.
All these problems continue to threaten the lives of volunteers working in Gaza. They proceed with their activities in fear of death at any moment.
Currently, 85 percent of the total population of Gaza has been forced to leave their homes.
According to a report issued by the UN, chickenpox, jaundice, meningitis and respiratory diseases are spreading in Gaza.
Also, only nine of the 36 hospitals in Gaza are currently functioning. All this in the absence of essential drugs like anesthesia and antibiotics.
The US says it should provide humanitarian aid to Gaza while providing aid to Israel.
Also, in the first days of the war, the US Democratic members came forward to demand a ceasefire, but now everyone is focusing on the activities ahead of the next US presidential election.
In addition, Van Hollen came out against Israel in protest of the murder of journalist Shireen Abu Akhil.
