US Senate Leaders Delay Decision on Additional Aid to Ukraine and Border Security: Negotiations to Continue in January

US Senate leaders said the agreement to provide additional aid to Ukraine and strengthen US border security unlikely to be concluded in the near futureand one senior Democrat said a decision would likely be delayed until January.

“I hope they (the negotiators) will come up with a text, sit down, roll up their sleeves and get the job done as soon as we get back in January,” said Senator Dick Durbin.

Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said those involved in the trial are “making slow and steady progress.”

What preceded

Let us recall that back in early October, President Joe Biden invited more than $100 billion to Congress for national security needs. These funds also include new funding for assistance to Ukraine of more than $60 billion.

Republicans refused to support the initiative. They are demanding that the White House include their border security proposals in the request.

Republicans and Democrats have begun negotiations to reach a compromise on the issue. Against this background, the Senate of the United States of America decided not to go on vacation for another week.

Democrats expect to continue negotiations with Republicans on President Joe Biden’s request, which includes aid to Ukraine.
