US Senate Democrats on Tuesday blocked Republican efforts to quickly approve an emergency aid bill for Israel without funds earmarked for Ukraine that the House passed last week.

Details: Representatives of the majority in the upper house of the US Congress noted the importance of providing assistance to Ukraine and Israel in addition to humanitarian assistance, funding for border security and money to confront China in the Indo-Pacific region.
They recalled that this was included in the $106 billion funding request that President Joe Biden sent to Congress last month.
Democrats also accused Republicans in the US House of Representatives of playing politics over events in Israel by tying aid to it to cuts to the US Internal Revenue Service.
“Our allies in Ukraine cannot afford a delay, and neither can our allies in Israel,” said Sen. Patty Murray, who chairs the Senate Budget Committee.
The US House bill would provide $14.3 billion to Israel in response to the October 7 Hamas attack, as well as cutting funding to the US Internal Revenue Service by the same amount.
Even before the vote, US senators from both parties expressed doubts about the bill. And Biden made it clear even earlier that the president veto on such a bill if it comes to his desk.
