US sees no progress in talks between Ukraine and Russia

Blinken does not believe in positive developments in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia

Despite Russia’s statement, the US Secretary of State sees no positive developments in the talks.

The United States is ready to take part in the implementation of the agreements between Ukraine and Russia on the security of Ukraine, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Tuesday, March 29.

“If there is some result, and our support for Ukraine can be part of this result, including support for its security and defense, then, of course, we want to strive for this,” he said.

At the same time, Blinken does not see positive shifts in the negotiations, but considers it a good signal if Kyiv sees them.

“It’s up to the Ukrainian partners to decide whether there are any changes or progress… if Ukraine has come to the conclusion that there are, then that’s good,” Blinken said.

“There is what Russia says and there is what Russia does. We are focused on the latter,” the Secretary of State said.

He warned that the Russian announcement of a reduction in hostilities around Kyiv could be “a means by which Russia is again trying to divert attention and deceive people into thinking that it is not doing what it is doing.”

“If they somehow believe that they can succeed in trying to subjugate ‘only’ eastern Ukraine and southern Ukraine, then they are again deeply deceiving themselves,” Blinken said.

He urged Russia to “stop aggression now, cease fire, withdraw its forces and, of course, negotiate.”

Recall that, as a result negotiations in Istanbul in the Office of the President announced that there was a real a chance for an early end to the war.
