The U.S. government has decided to receive an additional 100 million doses of the Corona 19 vaccine from Pfizer, a domestic pharmaceutical company.
According to the Associated Press, Pfizer and German Bioentech announced on the 23rd that they will deliver 100 million copies to the United States by July 31st next year in accordance with a new agreement with the US government.
In July, the U.S. contracted 100 million servings at a price of $19.50 each and bought an option to purchase an additional 500 million servings.
At the time, Pfizer offered to provide additional supplies, but the US government refused. Then the government recently decided to exercise the option and began discussions.
In the meantime, there are concerns that other countries waiting to purchase a Pfizer vaccine may delay the procurement schedule.
How many vaccines Pfizer can produce next year is still a variable. In these circumstances, the exercise of options by Contracting Parties may affect the supply of other countries.
In November, Pfizer announced that it plans to cut the global production volume in half by the end of this year to produce only 50 million batches as it faced difficulties in expanding its manufacturing capacity and securing raw materials.
