US Secretary of State Urges Opening Urgent Humanitarian Corridors in Gaza Strip

US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, stressed, on Saturday, in a meeting with the President of the Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, “the necessity of opening urgent humanitarian corridors to deliver medical and relief aid to the Gaza Strip,” noting the importance of preventing the conflict between Hamas and Israel from expanding.

The UAE expressed its “strong dissatisfaction” with the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements taking Israeli civilians hostage in the Gaza Strip, in a statement by the Gulf state that normalized its relations with the Hebrew state in 2020.

The meeting discussed “the need to intensify regional and international diplomatic efforts and endeavors to contain the situation and prevent the situation from worsening and the outbreak of more violence and crises in the region, in light of the developments in the situation and its dangerous repercussions,” according to WAM.

The two sides discussed “the importance of working to find a clear political horizon to ensure the achievement of a just and comprehensive peace that consolidates regional security and stability… stressing their common keenness to enhance stability and prosperity in the Middle East region.”

The two parties also reviewed “the relations of strategic cooperation and joint work between the two friendly countries and ways to develop them in various fields to serve their common interests.”

Blinken’s visit to the UAE comes as part of a tour that also led him to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Israel in an attempt to limit the spread of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
