The two countries quickly drifted apart after the 2018 murder of Saudi-born journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi intelligence agents.
President Joe Biden called bin Salman a ‘murderer’ and said he would hold him accountable until the end.
When oil prices soared due to the war in Ukraine, the Saudis continued to ignore the US demand for increased production, and the emotional chasm deepened.
However, the atmosphere has changed as Saudi Arabia normalizes diplomacy with Iran, which was an enemy through Chinese mediation.
The United States is working hard to improve relations with Saudi Arabia to stabilize oil prices and keep China in check in the Middle East.
